One of the tallest structures in Washington D.C. the impressive National Cathedral rises as a prominent landmark in the nation’s capital. The architecture is Neolithic and this cathedral is sixth largest in the world. A true spiritual resource, people of all faiths are welcomed. The nation’s sanctuary provides a haven for the United States in times of peace and sorrow.

An Episcopal church started in 1893 when President Theodore Roosevelt and a gathering of more than twenty thousand people were present when the foundation stone was set.Check out this link here. The official name of this stately house of worship is Cathedral Church of Saint Peter and Saint Paul. All funding for the facility is through the Protestant Episcopal Cathedral Foundation and many generous donations to the fund.

Located on at the intersection of Wisconsin and Massachusetts Avenues, the cathedral is open every day of the year to visitors. The requested donation for the tour is five dollars. Looking at a current schedule will give a listing of special evening events, especially during major holiday seasons, and times of worship services. All cathedral programs and services are open to the public. Whenever people are visiting in the D.C. Area, this cathedral is worth visiting.

Whether you go on a family trip or by yourself, a day at the National Zoo will be a great adventure. Also, if you have a group that would like to reserve bus parking you can check into one of the zoo package deals they have; not only would that reserve bus parking for your group, it would aslo provide you with a park greeter. The yearly schedule for the National Zoo is as follows: April through October, the Animal exhibits are open from 10 a.m. until 6 p.m. daily. For the months of Novemeber through March, the Animal exhibits are open from 10 a.m. until 4:30 p.m. daily. On Occassion, the Zoo will close early for special events so make sure you call ahead for their schedule on the dates you wish to visit. At the Zoo, there are all kinds of food services available and snacks to keep your appetite pleased. There are also many souvenir shops to visit. Make sure you take along your favorite camera to capture memories. Take plenty of pictures of the lions and tigers and don’t forget the ape exhibit. There are several indoor exhibits’ too. Although the zoo is quite a walk, the National Zoo has benches all around their park so those of us who need to rest in between can.

DC is a great place to visit in the summertime and there’s always a lot going on. Whether you’re setting your ADT security Texas system or hopping on a jet at JFK, you can appreciate all the Capitol City has to offer for your family! Here are a few of our best suggestions for things to do with kids in DC…
Smithsonian: Not just any of the Smithsonians, though, the Air and Space Museum. There are tons of life sized replicas of planes, helicopters and gliders and your kids are sure to be awestruck by the massiveness of the building. Great for dads, too!
Native American Heritage Museum: This is a great way to get your kids some culture while strolling along the prettiest part of the DC Museum district. There are performances and even a few hands-on exhibits, and don’t forget to grab lunch!
Lincoln Memorial: A classic DC landmark, the Lincoln Memorial should not be missed by your kids. Explain to them about the “I Have a Dream” speech and talk about how all the monuments line up with the Capitol. There’s a lot of cool history here!

Just like Washington, DC which is rated as the political capital of the world, the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in Washington is regarded as the center of theatre and drama in the whole world. It is located at the main New Hampshire Avenue, NW and is easily accessible by train, car or by Free Kennedy Center Show Shuttle as well. That free shuttle operated every day at the timings that are convenient and best suited for the tourists.

As indicated by its name, it is a crowded and very popular tourist’s destination because every one wants to catch the excitement at the Kennedy Center. This place is full of entertainment as lots of activities such as orchestral, chamber, popular, jazz & folk music; theatre, dance, musicals, youth and family programs are always in progress at Kennedy Center. Further free live performances at Millennium Stage are a daily and mandatory attraction.

As per an estimate around 3,000 performances are presented yearly at Kennedy Center, so there is a definite chance to catch something every time when you visit this place. Moreover the much celebrated annual festivals and multi-media shows for all age groups will surely offer a best value for your money. So whether you are an art lover or not, visiting the Kennedy Center is a compulsory activity as one can not get such choice and such quality at one place.

Georgetown is one of the oldest neighborhoods in Washington D.C., and, today, is one of the trendiest in our nations capital.

Georgetown was established in 1751 as part of a British colony before the District of Columbia even existed. The town was named after a famous George-no, not the famous American President, but not everyone is sure which George. Since Georgetown was at first under British control, some believe it was named after Britain’s King George II. Others have a more likely origin to the name of the town; its two founders were both named George.

Despite this pressing issue, Georgetown is an amazing historical experience. The key to exploring Georgetown is to walk through its streets, admiring its historic homes and storefronts. Today, Georgetown is one of the trendiest places to shop. Several storefronts offer designer clothes that cater to some of Washington’s elite. There are also home deco shops that sell modern and victorian household decorations to furnish a home in any style.

Another great experience of Georgetown that people who live or visit their crow about, are the food shops. Perfectly cooked delicacies of any shape and size are offered in casual or formal settings, making for a perfect quick eat or date night.

Georgetown has a lot to offer. Explore it on foot to get the most out of this historic experience.

If you’re headed to the capitol city and you’re a runner, you might want to plan your trip around the date of March 26, 2011 since that’s when the Sun Trust National Marathon and Half Marathon will take place. The course is touted as “majestic” in nature since it begins at RFK Stadium and takes runners alongside the National Mall where they will pass the Capitol Building, Washington Monument, and Lincoln Monument, in addition to the historic Smithsonian museums and sculpture garden. Runners will then run by the White House as they turn north on 18th Street. As they head north through the Adams Morgan district the course will bring them by both Howard University and Trinity College where they will find some of the most inspiring of the course’s many cheering stations. Turning back south on North Capitol Street brings in a stunning view of the Capitol Building for over a mile before runners head back east towards the finish of the half marathon. If continuing with the full marathon, runners will revisit some of the beautiful National Mall buildings before heading south along the river and past the Washington Nationals Ballpark. Followed by a few miles on the Anacostia Riverwalk trail, runners will then head back across the river to the finish line at RFK Stadium. And in keeping with past tradition, the 2011 race will once again include its popular National Pasta Dinner on the night before the race March 25th from 4:30 8:00. If interested in participating check out the race’s site to register, offer to volunteer, or sign up to run for a cause like the American Cancer Society or The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society to name a few.
